GEOCACHING ON THE LEADHILLS ESTATE

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game that gets all the family involved in the great outdoors.

All you need is a pair of walking boots, a raincoat, an object to swap once you reach the treasure and of course the essential piece of kit – a GPS enabled mobile device, the obvious choice being your smart phone.

The Leadhills has been a popular area for Geocaching for some time now but with the better weather on the horizon we hope that you can encourage kids away from Playstations and Xboxes and get them outside on an adventure.

Ian Ledger of Geocache Land Ltd said “To date over 900 finds have been logged on the geocaches placed around the Leadhills village. This includes at least 52 finds on each of the geocaches placed on the tracks to the reservoir and back. Alot of the logs left by the finders state that they have either made a special trip to Leadhills because of the caches, or diverted to the village where they would not have otherwise visited. Many logs state how beautiful the area is and that the geocachers will return to explore the village and hills more. This can only be good news for businesses like the hotel and village shop”

Get out and enjoy the Leadhills Estate – don’t forget to log the date you found the treasure in the log book and leave a little trinket behind.
