Leadhills Estate supports The Leadhills and Wanlockhead Railway
The Leadhills and Wanlockhead Railway is a two foot gauge touristic railway that operates over the old trackbed of the Caledonian Railways branch line to Wanlockhead, from the site of the station in Leadhills to the county boundary at Glengonnar pass.
Open between Easter and end of October, the team of volunteers operate the railway between 1045 and 1600 hours and there is always a requirement for more personnel to help out at the railway as a driver, guard, shop staff, track maintenance and maintenance.
The team are also looking to fund a new visitor Centre and a rolling stock storage shed (RSSS). The idea is to have the new station building look like the old one that was taken down in 1939.
The Railway has a lease for 25 years from the Leadhills Estate to use the track bed as well as providing materials for the new station building. Visit https://www.leadhillsrailway.co.uk/ for more information
