Leadhills Estate is continuing to manage water levels at Glen Franka reservoir, despite recent rainfall, and is progressing with work to secure the future of the dam.
Managing water levels
Following careful monitoring and adjustment, we have identified the optimum setting for the discharge pipe and are maintaining the reservoir level at the necessary Top Water Level (TWL) of 1.5 to 2.0 metres.
We will endeavour to maintain this TWL by balancing outflow and the number of turns on the control valve of the pipe with inflow from the catchment area. We will be monitoring the dam performance closely, particularly as we move into the wetter season, to make an informed decision on next steps.
Heritage consultation
Consultation with Historic Environment Scotland is ongoing as we consider the future of the reservoir. This forms an important part of the project’s development and will inform future proposals.
Looking ahead
We’re looking forward to presenting a three-dimensional digital model illustrating the proposal for Glen Franka Reservoir at our community information event on 27 Octoberat Leadhills Village Hall.
During the event, we will share more details about the current status of, and future plans for, the reservoir and encourage attendees to ask questions and provide feedback. Please do drop by at any time between 3pm and 7pm on 27 October.
In the meantime, do get in touch if you have any questions.
